The City of Montgomery is one of the oldest cities in Texas and is the birthplace of the Texas flag.
In its early days, Montgomery was the trade center for a large farming area, where stagecoach, railroad and telegraph lines crossed. Civic and religious organizations came early to Montgomery, as well as the first school in 1839. In the 1850’s, Montgomery experienced a building boom. Some of the fine homes built at that time remain today with descendants of the original owners or early owners occupying them. The Civil War stopped all progress in Montgomery, but by 1900, numerous mercantile establishments were in business, as well as three cotton gins, railroads active with freight and passengers, five hotels and boarding houses, doctors, dentists, and lawyers.
Just over the past 8 years the little, quiet and peaceful town of Montgomery has boomed. Montgomery a short time ago had a small population; it now has over 55,000 residences that call it HOME. With Montgomery being only 20 minutes away from The Woodlands and about 45 minutes from Houston, makes its location perfect. Montgomery High School was recently voted as one of the Top High Schools in the Nation. When you visit Montgomery you will experience a rich culture, friendly people and that small town feel.
Montgomery Texas now has many wineries to visit, antique shopping, restaurants, boutique shopping and a local farms market the 1st Saturday of every month. Montgomery is expecting a large commercial development and many single family homes to come over the next 2 years.
