Amazing to me how many and how popular April Fool’s Day jokes are on social media - most are humorist. However, it got me thinking, so much that is floating around ‘on the line’ these days that it might be interesting to research a few interesting facts I have heard about Real Estate, check them out and share. So, please join me on this fun journey.
First up - The Oligodynamin Effect - Some metals kill off bacteria. Silver in silverware has been used for ages because it is antiseptic. Other metals that actually sterilize themselves after a period of time. There was a study in Nepal that promoted drinking water being held in pots made of these oligodyamic metals: silver, brass and copper. Another study of hospital doors and doorknobs showed that aluminum and stainless steel allowed bacteria to remain, grow and flourish, while brass and copper doorknobs showed bacterial growth was impeded. It’s still good practice to wash your hands often and when appropriate, but I find it strange and true that Brass Doorknobs are just a bit more than pretty.
Do you like Red Front Doors? Many people do and I found there are a few reasons (besides just liking a red door) that people may paint theirs red.
In the Old Testament when the Children of Israel were in captivity just before Moses lead them on their journey to the Promise Land - they were told to rub blood on the doorpost so that the Angel of Death would Passover the home providing protection. Since, a red door has become a symbol of God’s protection.
Starting in Scotland, it became tradition to painting a front door red once a mortgage was paid off! Now that is a fun painting honey do!
Feng Shui is a Chinese philosophy which teaches color and object placement to promote room energy. The front door is the “Mouth of Chi” or where the energy is entered – so if you follow Feng Shui and would like to welcome energy into your home, paint your door red. (It was also an early American tradition to show that a home was a place to rest for those traveling by horse and buggy. )
Speaking of the color red – I heard a story about someone that started trading objects till he traded up to a home over a course of a year.. If you have seen the A & E Show Barter Kings, you know that Trade and Barter is big and growing market now. I sometimes go and look at the trade area on Craig’s List – but still haven’t found anyone that will take my husband… (just kidding Ray!) But I actually found that Kyle MacDonald (and he has his own blog at oneredpaperclip.blogspot.com ) started with a Red Paper Clip, got into a house and then wrote a book about it (in that house – Score!). I wonder what would have happen if he started with just a silver clip?
Well that is just a few interesting facts that I can tell you are not April Fool’s Day Jokes if you hear them today out in the fields, streams or ‘on the line’.
If you are interested in finding a home the old fashion way – without trading – with or without a red door (and I will always recommend brass doorknobs now) – I would be happy to help you. I will most likely use more than one paper clip along the way and a staple or two – I have the tool set and knowledge to get you Home!
