Being only few years ago when I first heard about Pine Tree Crosses I have been excited about this year as it is an early Easter. I have been waiting to see if the story held true as with Easter weekends that fell later in the year. I was actually at my Church when I first Googled upon the story – and I recall walking quickly to a window to see if I could see the new growth which is reported to grow in the shape of crosses at the top of pine trees and to my amazement from where I stood, I couldn't see – I was too far away. As it happen, I had my camera, I grabbed it and from my vantage point , I could see.... and there they were! (The pine trees around our church are tall ones... and this in normally seen at the top of the trees.)
I read that pine trees begin their growing in the spring, as the yellow tint on all the sidewalks, cars, well just everything, reminds us. The story tells readers that about 2 weeks before Easter you will see the yellow shoots at the top of pine trees and as we grow closer to Easter Sunday, the tallest shoots will begin to branch off and form a cross. This leaves us with pine trees sporting small yellow crosses on all of the tallest shoots on Easter Sunday. This doesn't occur in all species of pine trees, but it appears it does here on the Gulf Coast and Piney Woods.
I started looking up yesterday, they were there, the tall shoot, and I even found one tree that had begun to shape the crosses - it is holding true for an early Easter - I am amazed and delighted. I look forward to posting more photos on Sunday. If you would like to see what the cross look like completed - Google as I did Pine Tree Cross and there you will find images and the story.
It is all based on your faith and your belief system; however I believe. It is wonderful to be able to look up at the trees this time of year and see these crosses – it is a new tradition for me and my family and one we will continued to share.
However you spend this weekend, take a moment to look up at the top of a pine – it’s worth a look. I know I will be looking up with thankfulness.
Happy Easter, God Bless.
