Try to drink water or sparkling water instead of sugary soft drinks or egg-nog. Try to eat smaller portions and fill your plate with fresh veggies and fruits and lean protein.Don't forget some yummy carbs that you otherwise would not have.
If you eat a Christmas cookie, just enjoy one small one (not 10). If there are 4 kinds of potatoes, just get a tiny amount of each so that the total will be equal in quantity to one small serving.
Don't feel that you have to eat everything on the table. There is no one strategy but the reason people gain weight is because they take in more calories than they usually do.
Take a walk before or after dinner.
