The crime rate in Texas has dropped over 8 percent in 2011, officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety announced in a press release Friday, with the crime rate in Conroe dropping by 25.4 percent.
Based on data compiled by the DPS Uniform Crime Reporting program that was released in the Annual Report of 2011 UCR Data collection, the overall statewide crime rate dropped by approximately 8.3 percent in 2011, according to the release. The report also shows that violent crime and property crimes both decreased in 2011 compared to 2010.
Of the police departments that reported the highest changes, Pharr Police Department had the biggest decrease in crime from 2010 to 2011 with a 31.3 percent reduction, according to the report. This is followed by Conroe with a decrease of 25.4 percent and Sugar Land Police Department with a 24.5 percent decrease.
